A Long Exposure of a Coogee Sunset

Outside in Pixels Long Exposure Coogee Beach NSW Australia Sydney Seascapes

If you live in Sydney you probably would have noticed that over the last couple of weeks we have been lucky to see some amazing sunsets. Great colours with mixes from orange to red to pink to purple and everything inbetween. Sydney is a difficult city to capture with a sunset.. and with the sunset getting earlier and earlier it is very rare I find myself out of work early enough to get to a vantage point to make the most of it. This is where the joy of flexible work hours comes in.. with me taking the opportunity of a pre-8am start to get out of work shortly after 4pm. This allowed me time to rush back home.. grab my bag and head on down to Coogee Beach one afternoon when I saw the sky turning a great colour.

Now I hadnt done a sunset on Coogee Beach before.. with the terrain climbing back up to Randwick I have always thought that sunset effect might be somewhat lost on the sky in the vacinity.. as you can see I was wrong. Infact I have now scouted a place at North Coogee where there is a natural ocean pool and I am thinking I will definitely have to go there and try shooting directly towards the sunset.

At the southern end of Coogee Beach there is a Surf Life Saving Club and I am still trying to find the perfect way to frame this in a shot. I am thinking it will need some foreground interest or something relative to seal the deal. Every time I shoot it I can find happyness in the VF but once i start procesing I crop and change and get annoyed. Unfortunately there is usually always someone climbing around the front door or ugly cables/powerlines attaching themselves but I think that is something ill just have to get over.

Ill keep trying and get there one day.. I have used a film processing technique for the interesting blue and orange tones of the shot.. matching the surf club. I have always loved how it has a clock mounted on it. I will ensure to blog about the sunset trip to North Coogee very soon!

Till next time..
