A Windy Mona Vale Sunrise

Back in mid May when scouting for a new spot to try myself and my friend Toan stumbled across Mona Vale Ocean Pool. I had seen shots from there before, but hadn’t really put it high on my priority list.. I certainly wish I had though! We arrived to a very cold and windy morning at Mona Vale.. with a high tide and a big swell it was actually impossible for us to get out to the pool itself. Greeted by churning waters we setup camp and got started well before dawn.

Unfortunately like most beaches in Sydney they have these ugly orange sulphur lights turn on prior to sunrise, for those early morning swimmers. I dont mind the swimmers, but the lights play havoc on white balance! As you can see this pool is no different, even though it is off the beach.. in the middle of the water.. there is a power pole (that connects to the building on the beach) and the big orange like ruins the shots until it is bright enough to no longer impact! The unfortunate thing is the range of movement for that morning, so you do get shots that overlay a bit in terms of movement you like but similar framing. I got a few shots for different reasons that I like and ill share them below.

The first and last shots I am going to get printed as I think they work very well together as a set. The colours were fantastic that morning and with longer exposures I got some great movement and changes with the light. I am hoping to go back at a slightly lower tide so I can get out to the pool itself and capture some great shots. Definitely a great spot.. looking forward to sharing some more shots later this week. I am  hoping to have a blog post up on Thursday, however I am shooting a wedding tomorrow with Dan so it might have to wait.

Till next time ..
