Street photography is a very interesting yet difficult medium to master. You need to (as the photographer) find a way to engage subjects… either by being bold and snapping people without care.. or by mastering other techniques (like shooting from the hip). I am not very good at either of these.. I sort of fumble along the way but I still like what I like and when my friend Josh asked to go for some Street Shooting in Newtown on his birthday.. well how could I resist?
So we met up at the Bank in Newtown after work one day in mid may. A couple of drinks to get us started and then we waited for my partner Rose to arrive. The basic goal? Do some laps of King St and then grab some food for dinner. Not much to say really.. I got a mix of shots of people and scenes and then I processed them to suit the feel I wanted to convey. Rose also took some fantastic shots of us ‘behind the scenes’… including me taking some photos with my prized Yashica 124g. Ill keep this short for once but I hope you enjoy the shots.. I did shoot a fair bit of film but it will take me a couple of weeks to develop.
All shots are with a borrowed Nikon D700 with Nikon 17-55mm f2.8. If I remember correctly the majority of the shots are at ISO3200 or ISO6400.. so perhaps a little grainy 🙂
